Lotte Museum of Art held the first solo exhibition of Alex Katz, the master of modern portraits. Alex Katz, a painter who represents New York, describes the city's ordinary people and their lives with a unique and elegant touch. He fills a huge screen in simple color and intentionally cropped it to reveal more than meets the eye. The first exhibition in Asia at Lotte Museum revealed the CK series in collaboration with Calvin Klein and the new Coca-Cola series in 2018 for the first time. The exhibition was hailed as an exhibition that encompasses the art world of Alex Katz, which distorts the boundaries of abstractions & characters, movements & quietness, and painting & advertising. This exhibition shows how his work style changed by displaying paintings of flowers and landscapes that represented Katz in the 1980s. Encounter with simple colors and huge, cropped material on canvas gives viewers strange feeling and at the same time mysterious. This succinctly described Katz’s work focuses on the substance of the material and stimulates viewers’ curiosity to what appears behind it.
